American Veterans Archaeological Recovery Program

The American Veterans Archaeological Recovery Program ensures Wounded Warriors are fully engaged in archaeological projects, and that they are performing important roles as integral parts of the overall archaeological team.  They work alongside fellow veterans with similar experiences, as well as with university archaeology students.

Each participant has specific concepts to learn and tasks to complete, which are verified by the site supervisor to record the experience gained.  Concepts and techniques that are taught include:  maintaining field notebooks, sketching and photographing artefacts, site health and safety requirements, archaeological ethics, the importance of stratigraphic layers, and preparing accurate maps.
