Governor Newsom issued the following proclamation commemorating Women Veterans Recognition Day, June 12, 2022. Yet another way California recognizes the military service and invaluable contributions of women veterans.
Women have served in every major U.S. war and conflict, from the Revolutionary War to the war in Afghanistan – in addition to peacetime and throughout the history of our country. President Truman signed the Women’s Armed Services Integration Act into law on June 12, 1948, allowing women to serve as permanent and regular members of the U.S. Armed Forces.
Americans celebrated the first Women Veterans Day on June 12, 2018, and it is currently a state-recognized commemoration in California and 13 other states.
