On September 12, 2006, 2LT Emily Jazmin Tatum Perez was killed in action while courageously leading a convoy in Iraq. Her sacrifice made her an American hero, but the weight of that title cannot ease the grief of losing her. Nineteen years later, her absence is still deeply felt—but the remembrance of her life and legacy continues to unite all who knew and loved her.
Last night, the Emily J.T. Perez Foundation hosted a virtual gathering to lift glasses in A Toast to Emily. From across the country and beyond, family, friends, and supporters came together online to share in love, reflection, and gratitude for the remarkable young leader whose legacy continues to inspire.
Through the work of the Foundation, Emily’s spirit endures—shaping lives, fostering leadership, and reminding us all of the power of service.
For those unable to join the live gathering, the recording of A Toast to Emily is available to watch here:
Emily is remembered not only for her sacrifice, but for the life she lived with purpose, passion, and heart. Her legacy continues to touch lives, bringing people together in strength, hope, and love.
