Patient Access Progress Update Release 98 – July 26, 2018

Summary

In keeping with the commitment to improve transparency in Department of Veterans Affairs’ (VA) processes and in accordance with Section 206 of the Veterans Access, Choice, and Accountability Act of 2014 (VACAA), VA today released the latest update of facility-level patient access data and is highlighting notable access improvements. In this release, VA is providing two reports:

  • Completed Appointments (As of June 2018)*
  • Pending Appointments (Snapshot of data on July 15, 2018)*

Notable Improvements:

  1. In June 2018, VA completed more than 4.85 million appointments.
  2. VA completed 95.18 percent of appointments in June 2018 within 30 days of the clinically indicated or Veteran’s preferred date; 88.94 percent within 14 days; 83.46 percent within 7 days; and 20.29 percent are actually completed on the same day.
  3. From June 1, 2014, to July 15, 2018, the Electronic Wait List went from 56,271 appointments to 18,466 — a 67 percent reduction.
  4. When compared to the July 15, 2017, pending appointments data set, the July 15, 2018, pending appointment set shows VA has increased the number of overall pending appointments by 1,409,020.
