Event to help empower women veterans to be held on weekend of Women Veterans Day Orangevale, California June 17, 2022 –Members of our community will lace up and run for a reason- empowering women who have served our country! Most do not realize that over 2 million women veterans have served our country and this number is rapidly growing. In addition, over 200,000 are currently defending our freedom at home and abroad. As a society, when Veterans are thought of women almost never come to mind. Thanks to Melissa Washington, founder of the Women Veterans Giving (WVG), this situation is rapidly changing.

This year’s event will honor the 75th anniversary of the signing of the Armed Services Integration Act legally permitted women to serve in the U.S. Armed Forces in a number of official capacities.

The organization that was established in Sacramento is holding its 5th annual Women Veterans Fun Run Walk Ride at Orangevale Community Park on Saturday June 17th and this year there will be featuring a PARADE to follow the Run. This event will bring awareness that women have served and to raise money for Women Veterans Giving to assist women veterans start or expand their business and to fund their professional development. To date WVG has awarded over $20,000 to women veterans!

Opening Ceremony for the 5K Fun Run will begin at 8am at Orangevale Community Park with a presentation of colors and National Anthem followed by a fly over from Coast Guard Air Station Sacramento. Parade will start at 9am on Greenback Lane.
