SWAN Director of Operations Position Open to Applicants

About the Service Women’s Action Network (SWAN): SWAN is a national, non-partisan organization and member-driven community network advocating for the individual and collective needs of service women and women veterans. To date, SWAN has played a major role in opening all military jobs to service women, holding sex offenders accountable in the military justice system, eliminating barriers to disability claims for those who have experienced military sexual trauma, and expanding access to a broad range of reproductive healthcare services for military women.

Position Description: The primary focus of the Director of Operations is the responsibility for the daily operations and activities of the Service Women’s Action Network. The individual will report directly to the CEO and manages staff, the intern program, and our dedicated volunteer network to further the mission of SWAN and achieve the goals of the organization. Additionally, the Director of Operations will execute the organization’s daily calendar, delegate external communication, and be the focal point between SWAN’s Board of Directors, the CEO, and SWAN’s larger network of members. This position is part-time at 15-20 hours per week. The position is virtual and does not require the employee to go into an office.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Liaise with the Chief Executive Officer to make decisions for SWAN’s operational activities
  • Plan and monitor daily operations including maintaining and updating the organizations calendar and additional databases
  • Manage office procurement and material allocations
  • Ensure proper scheduling, management, and execution of SWAN events
  • Run weekly staff meetings by publishing agenda and taking and distributing meeting notes
  • Revise and/or formulate operational policies and promote implementation.

Necessary Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher; preferably in Non-Profit Management, Public Policy/Administration
  • A functional knowledge of Squarespace or similar website platforms
  • Familiarity with email marketing tools such as EveryAction and Eventbrite, etc;
  • Comfortable using social media platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, and Instagram
  • Excellent interpersonal communications and management skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, especially Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel

Preferred Qualifications

  • Ability to edit, produce, and design content
  • Veteran status is a plus, preference given to disabled veterans with proof of disability
