The UCLA Veterans Legal Clinic welcomes our new Staff Attorney, Dr. Katherine Robinson!

UCLA increases staff at VLC to meet demand

The UCLA School of Law Veterans Legal Clinic is adding a new staff attorney, Katherine Robinson, to its growing number of Veteran-focused staff.

The VLC provides legal assistance to former service members and their families. The clinic is located at the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs West Los Angeles campus, which is being redeveloped to provide additional housing opportunities to unhoused former service members. Many of the clinic’s clients are people that are unhoused and stay on the VA campus and those who are aging, disabled, or system-involved or returning from incarceration.

The clinic represents clients in an array of issues, including disability benefits (both VA benefits and Social Security), record clearing, and housing. The Staff Attorney will be primarily located at the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs West Los Angeles Campus.

Katherine Robinson earned her Bachelor of Arts in History and Human Rights from Columbia College, cum laude, and her Juris Doctor degree from Harvard Law School in 2018.

Between her degrees, Robinson worked in the New Orleans and Los Angeles Public Defenders Offices. Additionally, she was a Parole Hearing Officer for the Harvard Prison Legal Assistance Project. After earning her JD, Robinson worked for The Bail Project and the Law Office of Carol Sobel; both of which featured work in decriminalizing homelessness, fighting predatory bail practices, advocacy, and other work revolving around under-privileged defendants and communities.

UCLA is excited to have Katherine join the team as the university continues to build its capacity across its different Veteran-focused programs, like the VLC. Robinson is one of four new employees this year to join UCLA with the sole focus of helping Veterans at the West LA VA campus and the Veteran community.
