Women Veterans Alliance’s 2021 UnConference heads to Las Vegas this October
Sacramento, CA—Women Veterans Alliance and Women Veterans Giving are pleased to usher in the spring with two popular annual fundraisers: the Women Veterans Giving Fun Run and the Women Veterans Boots & Ball Gown Gala.
The excitement kicks off on May 15 in Orangevale, CA with the fourth annual Women Veterans Red, White & Blue Fun Run at Orangevale Community Park. Open to participants of all ages, the Fun Run not only celebrates our country’s women veterans but also raises much-needed funds to help them transition to civilian life, go to school, launch their careers, and expand their businesses. Registration to run, walk, or ride opens at 8:00 am, while the run begins at 9:00 am. After-run activities, including awards, will continue in the park until 11:00 am. Visit the official website for more information, or to register in advance.
The festivities continue that evening in Orangevale Community Center Park with the second annual Women Veterans Boots & Ball Gown Gala. The outdoor event will include dinner, drinks, raffle prizes, and a silent auction—with all proceeds benefiting Women Veterans Giving. The red carpet opens at 5:30 pm, while the program and dinner begin at 6:00. Click here to reserve a ticket or table.
During the gala, the Beyond the Call of Duty Awards will be presented to a military women and a veteran who have made an extraordinary impact in their community and/or with their fellow servicewomen. Visit the Women Veterans Giving website to nominate a woman who has gone Beyond the Call of Duty. Nominations will be accepted through April 26th.
The past few weeks have held particular significance for military women. While March marks Women’s History Month, the state of California recognizes the third week of March as Military Women’s History Week. Women Veterans Alliance partnered on several events throughout the month, including a virtual Women’s Military History Week gathering on March 20, in partnership with Cal Vet Women Veterans and the Northern California VA. Women Veterans Alliance and Women Veterans Giving founder and CEO Melissa Washington was a featured presenter at the event, where she celebrated and acknowledged the sacrifices and contributions of military women and offered advice about the many resources and benefits available to women veterans.
Washington also helped kick off the week-long Soldiers to Sidelines’ Military Women’s Coaching Certification Seminar on March 22. Presented in partnership with Women Veterans Alliance, the certification program empowers and educates veterans and service members to be character-based coaches.
Looking ahead, registration has officially opened for the 2021 Women Veterans Alliance UnConference. Taking place October 8-10 at the Tropicana Las Vegas, the sixth annual event will include informative sessions, delicious food, pampering, and an opportunity for women veterans to connect in a fun, engaging, and supportive setting. While more details on this year’s UnConference will be announced shortly, Women Veterans Alliance is currently accepting applications for guest speakers. Click here to apply.
